President Trump and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are about to make some huge mistakes with the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), so we need Congress to get involved. Our elected officials have a direct line to the White House, and they can help get the RFS back on the right track to protect American consumers, U.S. energy security and American jobs.

• EPA’s current RFS proposal is the largest and most expensive in history — potentially costing twice as much as any prior year. Red tape costs, alone, from this RFS could reach $70 billion in both 2026 and 2027. And it’s American consumers and refineries who will get saddled with the bill.  

• If changes aren’t made, this RFS proposal will force the United States to import more foreign biofuel and feedstocks.  

• There are some easy changes EPA can make to slash RFS red tape costs, without reducing any actual biofuel blending. Seriously. Congress needs to push EPA to exercise common sense on this matter.
