I love getting to come to you guys with good news. Just a few days ago, the House of Representatives passed the CARS Act with bipartisan support! 

That is no small feat in polarized Washington, D.C., and I think it’s a testament to how impactful it can be when members of Congress hear directly from us—the women and men who work in U.S. refining, petrochemical manufacturing and midstream energy. Thank you so much for contacting your representatives and pushing them to do the right thing (AFPM | EMPOWER, alone, sent more than 3,100 letters). We’re hopeful we can replicate some of this success in the Senate and get them to support the CARS Act as well.  

Rather than just celebrating this win amongst ourselves and moving to the next challenge, it’s important that we pause and employ a “best practice” in advocacy: thank you notes. Members of the House who voted “yes” on the CARS Act did so over objections from the White House and lots of 11th hour pressure from activist groups. We need to let these members know we appreciate the stand they took.
