Vote alert: U.S. Senators have the power to stop EPA’s car ban

Vehicle Ban
Share this:

When I emailed a couple weeks ago to share the news that EPA had finalized its regulation aimed at banning most new gas cars, I told you I’d be in touch with ways we can continue to fight this. Today is that day.

Write your Senators. They can stop the EPA car ban.

The United States Senate will likely vote on two measures in the next few weeks that would block EPA’s ban. The first measure would deny EPA any funding to implement this policy. The second measure would initiate a congressional overturn of the regulation, something Congress can do if a new regulation is less than 60 days old.

The legislative pathway is very important, and it’s going to be tight. The only way these measures can succeed in blocking EPA’s gas car ban is if Democrats and Republicans support them. There is no single-party path to victory.

Please take a minute to write your Senators today. Unlike the House of Representatives, the Senate has yet to take a single vote related to this policy. They need to understand how much folks in our industry and consumers, writ large, oppose EPA’s ban. We do not want the government—in any way, shape or form—telling us what cars we should drive or restricting our ability to find gas cars we can afford.

Rest assured, we’re not putting all our eggs in the congressional basket either. We’re also exploring our legal options and we know a number of states are doing the same thing. And we’re continuing to invest, big time, in raising public awareness around EPA’s ban. Because if more Americans are aware of what’s going on, they can contact the President and their members of Congress to try and stop this.

As always, please contact me with questions and thoughts. And remember to send your Senators a message!
