EMPOWER News Roundup - Why does California policy matter to Ohio?

Friend of EMPOWER and ascot fashion icon Scott Hayes (PBF Energy) explains how EV mandates in California would be felt all the way in places like Ohio.

EMPOWER News Roundup - A petroleum-based Christmas

All the gifts I’m giving this year are petroleum-based, so as the recipient opens it I can blurt out, “Do you know which part of this is derived from ethylene?” Petrochemical knowledge is this year’s must-have holiday gift.

Vote alert: U.S. Senators have the power to stop EPA’s car ban

The United States Senate will likely vote on two measures in the next few weeks that would block EPA’s ban. The first measure would deny EPA any funding to implement this policy. The second measure would initiate a congressional overturn of the regulation, something Congress can do if a new regulation is less than 60 days old.

EPA's massive vehicle reg, explained

As you may have heard, President Biden — through the EPA — finalized a new regulation yesterday that aims to force EV adoption and effectively ban new gas cars for most Americans. Needless to say, there are myriad problems with this regulation and AFPM is going to keep fighting it with everything we’ve got (we’ll share more with you on that soon).

EPA is about to cave to California’s car ban

It’s no secret government occasionally tries to hide “bad news” in late Friday information dumps. Well, they do the same during holiday breaks, and if you weren’t watching regulations.gov on December 26th—and who in their right mind would be doing that??— you would have missed that EPA opened up a comment period signaling their intention to green light California’s ban on sales of new gas, diesel, flex fuel and traditional hybrid vehicles.

Closing out 2023 with a CARS Act win

I love getting to come to you guys with good news. Just a few days ago, the House of Representatives passed the CARS Act with bipartisan support! That is no small feat in polarized Washington, D.C., and I think it’s a testament to how impactful it can be when members of Congress hear directly from us—the women and men who work in U.S. refining, petrochemical manufacturing and midstream energy.

Action alert: Congress is voting this week on the CARS Act.

This year, the U.S. EPA announced a plan to require nearly 70% of new vehicles to be electric in less than 10 years. The proposal amounts to a de facto ban on most new gas, diesel, flex fuel and hybrid vehicles—cars and trucks that run on American-made, American-grown fuels.

It’s that time of year again. There’s a chill in the air, leaves are on the lawn and festive gourds don our tables. So, get your bird in the oven and hoist up your stretchy pants, because the family is coming over and they have questions about our industries.
